Summer Jamboree is an international music festival focused on the culture and music of the fourties and fifties.
Description
[modifica | modifica wikitesto]The event, which takes place every year since 2000, is planned and organized by the culture association Summer Jamboree and is promoted with the support of the municipality of Senigallia. The festival usually starts on the last weekand of July and lasts a week. It involves the entire city: cafes, locals and symbolic places (Piazza del Duca, the Rotonda). The name is traslated as "party gathering" or "good times"; the origin of the english word Jamboree is unknown.
History
[modifica | modifica wikitesto]The first edition, in the year 2000, lasted only one day with the performance of four musical groups. The next year there was a greater participation, in 2002 the festival began to receive the attention of the Mass Media, increasing its popularity in Italy. The 2003 edition consacrated the Summer Jamboree among the top three of its kind in Italy. In 2005 the festival actracted a total of around 100.000 peaple during the seven days of the event and the three days of the prefestival; only the final evening was attended by 40.000 peaple. The 2015 edition, during the 10 days of the event, has counted about 400.000 admissions, while the 2017 edition, lasted twelve days recorded 420.000 attendance record. The presence of 400.000 spectators also in the 2018 edition confirms the hugesuccess of the event.
Music
[modifica | modifica wikitesto]During the seven days of the festival, there are a lot of live concert and djsets about swing, rock and roll, jive, doo-wob, ritm blues, hill Billy and Western swing. There are dance lessons too and the dances' coach are professional peaple; a lot of musicians coming from other states probably will became famous and important. Some of the musicians are Billy Lee Riley (USA), Big Jay Mac Neely (USA), Sid & Billy King (USA), Huelyn Duvall (USA), Charlie Gracie (USA), Ray Campi (USA), Pep Torres (USA), Wee Willie Harris (UK), Danny & The Juniors (USA), Barrence Whitfield (USA), Bill Haley's Original Comets (USA), Good Fellas (ITA), Hormonauts (ITA/SCO) e Jimmy Cavallo (USA). Stray Cats (USA).
