Ultimate Marvel è un'etichetta editoriale della Marvel Comics che è stata lanciata nel 2023 con una miniserie realizzata da Jonathan Hickman e Bryan Hitch mente nel 2024 sono state pubblicate le prime serie regolari. Pur condividendo il nome con l'omonima etichetta varata nel 2000 esiste un unico collegamento tra le due che è il personaggio del Creatore ovvero Reed Richards di Terra 1610.

A Febbraio 2023 venne annunciato ufficialmente che l'Universo Ultimate Marvel sarebbe stato rilanciato a Giugno attraverso una miniserie intitolata Ultimate Invasion scritta da Jonathan Hickman e disegnata da Bryan Hitch^[3][4]. Originariamente il progetto era stato affidato a Donny Cates, ma in seguito a problemi di salute accorsi a causa di un incidente d'auto ha dovuto abbandonarlo.

Hickman continues, "we also thought the very idea of Ultimate Comics needed to be inverted from what the original universe was. The original Ultimate Marvel imprint ceased to be published in 2015, and was destroyed in-story in the Secret Wars crossover, with The Maker being transferred to the main fictional universe. Writer Donny Cates used the character during his run in the Venom comic book, with the character trying to restore and return to his original universe. At the end of the story arc, the Maker returns to a devastated Ultimate universe, and later hinted he was planning an invasion of the main Marvel Universe.^[5] However, Cates had to pull out of writing Ultimate Invasion because of a car accident that left him with six months worth of memory loss, with the project given to Jonathan Hickman instead.^[6] Hickman had worked with the Maker character in the original Ultimate imprint and wrote the aforementioned Secret Wars crossover.

Hickman started the project with Ultimate Invasion, which ignores both the original Ultimate universe and the plots in Venom, and shows instead the Maker moving to a new alternate universe and changing it with extensive time travel to prevent the existence of most superheroes and make himself its unquestionable leader. By the end of the story, the Maker is defeated and banished inside an impenetrable dome-city, but his group that manages international relations in a "Power behind the throne" style remains a threat; the new comics are set within such background.

The flagship comic of the line is Ultimate Spider-Man, by Hickman and Marco Checchetto. In contrast with the original Ultimate Spider-Man comic, it stars an adult Peter Parker who is married to Mary Jane Watson and has two kids before he becomes Spider-Man. Hickman said that he was inspired by the version of the character seen in the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.^[7]

Writer Bryan Hill, who had previously worked on Blade, will write Ultimate Black Panther with Caselli. The comic will be about Black Panther defending the continent of Africa from the deities Khonshu and Ra. Hill said "I was invigorated by this opportunity because in addition to my immense respect for Johnathan Hickman's detailed storytelling, the idea of shepherding this bold new take on Black Panther in this event gives me a platform to do the kind of broad, epic, storytelling I've always wanted to do in comics. My influences range from the history of Black Panther comics, to Ryan Coogler's incredible work with the recent films, to Frank Herbert's world-building capacity of Dune. This is something people won't expect, in the best of ways, and full credit to Marvel and editors Wil Moss and Michelle Marchese for bringing this creative possibility to me."^[7]

Peach Momoko, from Demon Days: X-Men, will write and illustrate the new Ultimate X-Men comics. Armor will be the main character, and the X-Men will be tied to folklore and magic. Momoko said "I am very honored to be a part of the new Ultimate Universe. I am very careful in delivering the unique X-Men mutant elements while still being true to my vision and voice. I am also very proud (and surprised) that I was given enough freedom from C.B. Cebulski and Jonathan Hickman to create a brand-new X-Men character. It might not be the normal portrayal of a superhero... but, just like with my Momoko-verse stories, I am excited to introduce everyone to this new world."^[7]

Ultimates

In February 2024, it was announced that Deniz Camp and Juan Frigeri would write and illustrate The Ultimates, which will follow Iron Lad, Doctor Doom, Thor, Sif, Giant-Man and the Wasp as they band together to fight back against the Maker's council and take back their world. Camp said "The new Ultimates line is the most exciting super hero comics event in years, and it’s humbling to be a part of it! We are reinventing these classic characters and archetypes to be as surprising and vital as when they were first introduced. Terra 6160 era inizialmente una Terra parallela simile a quella dell'Universo Marvel principale, ma gli interventi del malvagio Reed Richards di Terra 1610 in specifici momenti della storia recente ne hanno modificato le caratteristiche divenendo molto diversa da come era in origine. Il Creatore ha sistematicamente impedito la formazione di quegli eroi e individui metaumani che avrebbero potuto ostacolare la sua ascesa al potere e la messa in atto del suo esperimento globale per la realizzazione di una società perfettamente controllata dall'alto^[8].

Non solo non esistono le comunità di supereroi e supercriminali, ma la stessa geopolitica della Terra è mutata, suddivisa in otto aree di potere^[8]:

• L'Unione Nordamericana. Copre i territori della Groenlandia, del Canada, degli Stati Uniti, del Messico e una parte dell'America Centrale e Caraibica, ha il suo centro di potere nella fu Costa Est degli Stati Uniti ed è governata dai tecnocrati Howard Stark e Obadiah Stane.
• La Società del Sudamerica. Copre i territori del Sudamerica e una parte dell'America Centrale e Caraibica, ha i suo centro di potere presso quella che fu la Regione Sudest del Brasile ed è governata da Emmanuel de Costa.
• La Coalizione Europea. Copre l'intera Europa fino ai confini con quello che fu il territorio russo, il suo centro di potere è nell'Europa occidentale ed è governata da Henri Duggary.
• I Regni Superiori ed Inferiori. Coprono l'intera Africa e il Medio Oriente, il loro centro di potere è collocato in Egitto e sono governati da Ra e Khonshu.
• La Repubblica d'Eurasia. Copre la quasi totalità di quello che è stato il territorio russo, kazako e mongolo, ha il suo centro di potere nel Krasnojarsk ed è governata dalla Famiglia Rasputin.
• I Figli della Luce Eterna e le Ombre della Terra Immortale. Coprono i territori dell'Asia Meridionale, gran parte del territorio cinese, il Sud-Est asiatico e l'Oceania, ha il suo centro di potere collocato nei territorio tra Nepal e Buthan ed è governata da Hulk.
• Hi No Kuni (Terra del Fuoco in giapponese). Copre l'arcipelago giapponese, il territorio cinese nordorientale, la penisola coreana e parte dei territori russi che si affacciano sul Mare di Ochotsk, ha il suo centro di potere in Giappone e Corea ed è governata dall'Alleanza Harada-Yoshida con al suo vertice l'Imperatore del Sole.
• La Città. Un'imponente struttura sferica al cui interno il tempo scorre diversamente e utilizzata già in precedenza come base operativa di Richards su Terra 1610. È collocata a Latveria ed è governata da Creatore.

I capi delle aree formano il "Consiglio del Creatore" e obbediscono direttamente a Richards aiutandolo nella conduzione del suo esperimento^[9]. In seguito al piano di Howard Stark che ha portato all'imprigionamento del Creatore e di Kang all'interno della Città per due anni, i componenti del Consiglio hanno proseguito le loro attività come sempre^[10] e, utilizzando Tony Stark come capro espiatorio in seguito alla sua ribellione nei loro confronti, si sono spartiti il controllo del Nordamerica^[11]. Sopravvissuto all'attentato del Consiglio, Tony e gli Ultimates iniziano la lotta per liberare il mondo dalla loro morsa prima che il Creatore esca dalla Città mentre, allo stesso modo, in Africa Pantera Nera conduce un conflitto contro le forze di Ra e Konshu^[11].
