Points for consideration

[modifica wikitesto]

Please excuse lack of Italian. Two points worry me here:

  • Cedd worked in the regional state of Mercia (central England) from 653. He then moved to Essex, kingdom of the East Saxons, which included London. There is no record of his working in Wessex, the West Saxon kingdom (which is south western England today).
  • Cedd was (and still is) venerated at Lastingham (in Yorkshire) and in Essex. Lichfield is associated with St Chad or Ceadda, Cedd's brother, who is easily confused with him, but was a quite different person. Some old books do confuse them, but I am reasonably certain Cedd was not venerated at Lichfield. I have attended an orthodox Eucharist at Lastingham, in which Cedd was honoured. Lichfield is my diocese and I often visit the cathedral, which contains the shrine of Chad (Ceadda).
