Il Premio Prometheus (Prometheus Award) è un premio letterario assegnato annualmente dalla Libertarian Futurist Society ai romanzi di fantascienza sociale e politica di chiave libertaria «che esplorano le possibilità di un futuro libero, sostengono i diritti umani, inclusa la libertà personale ed economica, mettono in scena il perenne conflitto tra gli individui e i governi repressivi o criticano le tragiche conseguenze dell'abuso di potere, specie da parte dello Stato («that explores the possibilities of a free future, champions human rights (including personal and economic liberty), dramatizes the perennial conflict between individuals and coercive governments, or critiques the tragic consequences of abuse of power--especially by the State»).[1]
Istituito da L. Neil Smith e assegnato per la prima volta nel 1979, diventa un riconoscimento regolare solo a partire dal 1982, grazie al supporto della Libertarian Futurist Society.
Dal 1983 è stata introdotta una Hall of Fame per onorare i classici, cioè i romanzi pubblicati da almeno cinque anni, e dal 1998 sono stati assegnati episodicamente dei premi speciali.
